US equities advance, ignore weak data

The stock markets in the US got off to a moderately weak start, but quickly inched higher even despite disappointing economic data.

Analysts at Brown Brothers Harriman explained that sterling has neared the 50% retracement of the 11.5 cent decline since mid-December.
