FTSE fails to sustain above 6600

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The London’s Ftse index fell below 6600 handle after being rejected at the high of 6616, but stays in the positive territory on the back of gains in the mining shares.

Barclays gains on upbeat results

Shares in Barclays rose 2.5% after profit for the second quarter rose to GBP 1.15 billion from GBP 161 million a year ago. The banks have decided to scrap its dividend target in a move to retain capital. Shares in British American Tobacco PLC were up 2.8% following the company’s report of a higher first-half profit of GBP 2.65 billion.

Among decliners, Compass group fell 4.475, while Antofagasta declined 1.8%. Capita PLC shares fell 1.2% after the company said first-half pretax profit fell 4%.

Investors stay cautious ahead of the FOMC policy statement due for release later today.
